Doug Comeau

Artist Doug Comeau’s graphite and coloured pencil realism is nothing short of astonishing.  Years of countless hours have been dedicated to perfecting his talent producing incredible compositions of subtle tone and meticulous detail.  As a self taught artist, Doug has focused on pencil since a very young age.  Doug was captivated by the work of a famous western realist, Charles Russell, while living in Great Falls Montana and he was his greatest inspiration as a young teenage artist.

At the age of nineteen, Doug enlisted into the air force and kept his passion for art as a hobby until retiring in 2001 when he became a full time artist.  Having such a diverse background has given Doug the ability and desire to create a vast range of subect material from aviation to portraiture.  Although excelling in all subjects, Doug’s passion and recognition has come from his spectacular wildlife compositions.  Whether in graphite or coloured pencil each rendition is breathtaking with detail down to the unbelievable.  Many of his studies in graphite are very large for such a medium and have added to the power and wow factor.  Many of Doug’s images have b een collected by a number of prominent and influential figures nationally and internationall.   One of Canada’s largest coloured pencil pieces was donated by Doug to the Quinte West City Hall for their contribution in his success and has become quite a tourist attraction for the area.

Doug resides in Frankford Ontario with his wife and two daughters.  To the south, in the city of Trenton, he owns and operates his personal gallery where his work is on display.  Electronically, you can view Doug’s collection at www.timberwolfgallery.ca and if possible come to see his work at the gallery.  It’s truly amazing and worth the trip.  Doug has been recognized as one of Canada’s premier realists.
